ABOUT LEATHER

About Leather

Embrace the unique character of genuine leather. Since each hide is a natural, irregular shape, a small portion will not be usable. The final cutting yield is determined by your specific pattern layout and how you choose to incorporate the hide’s beautiful, natural markings.

For optimal results, please observe all C.O.L. (Customer’s Own Leather) requirements from your furniture manufacturer.

Leather requirements for any architectural products, such as wall panels, need to be calculated by an experienced fabricator.

Embrace the Uniqueness of
FULL GRAIN LEATHER

Full Grain is the most authentic hide, untouched by sanding or buffing,
showcasing the animal’s natural markings and unique character.

Full grain leather is defined by its authenticity and natural character

Subtle variations in tone and texture: Imagine the unique grain patterns of fine hardwood. That is the kind of natural character you get with full grain leather.

Growth marks and small scars: These aren’t imperfections, they’re proof of a genuine, quality hide. They tell a story and add depth to the leather.

Even color on the suede side: This shows the dye penetrated deeply, ensuring rich, lasting color throughout.

Distinctive color variations: Each piece is unique, so expect slight differences even within the same batch. Embrace it as part of the charm!

They are Stronger. Full grain leathers have greater tensile strength and are less likely to “puddle” than leathers which have lost the surface layers.

They are more supple. Full grain leathers are natural, supple and provide a robust hand.

They are longer lasting. Full grain leathers, which have all of their natural properties intact, will breathe and will maintain high moisture content and proper PH balances.

They are more comfortable. Full grain leathers breathe and ventilate body heat away from the body, allowing them to remain cool and comfortable in summer while not becoming cold and rigid in winter.

They are more beautiful. Full grain leathers produced from the highest quality of raw materials have depth of color.

FULL GRAIN

Full grain VS corrected grain

The distinction between Full Grain and Corrected Grain leather lies in how the top surface of the hide is treated, which affects its appearance, durability, and aging process.

Yellow

CORRECTED GRAIN

Corrected Grain leather is made from hides that have surface imperfections (scars, blemishes). These hides are processed to create a uniform, blemish-free surface.

FULL GRAIN

Full Grain leather is considered the finest grade because it is untouched—the natural surface grain remains fully intact.

BUFFED GRAIN = NUBUCK

Nubuck is a type of leather that takes corrected grain leather to a whole new level. It is crafted through a gentle sanding process that gives it a velvety-soft texture, creating an incredibly luxurious feel against the skin. This treatment not only enhances its tactile quality but also results in a material that showcases subtle variations in color and tone, adding depth and character.

SUEDE

Split leather suede offers a distinctive and appealing texture, making it a favorite for soft-touch upholstery, garments, and accessories.
Unlike Full Grain leather, which uses the tough, outermost layer of the hide, Split Leather is created from the lower, fibrous interior layers after the top grain has been separated. This process yields a material with a naturally coarse surface that, when heavily buffed and sanded, transforms into the famously soft, napped texture we know as Suede.
